Weekend update

Lots of Halloween fun.

We started off the weekend by going over to my parents house then straight to the pumpkin patch. The boys helped up pick out our pumpkin.
Man these are really picked over.
Found it!
Then the pumpkin patch had story time but the boys really weren't interested in it . What the boys wanted to do was play in the hay maze.
Watch out for the computer bugs!!
I guess we will stop for a photo.
Then we hung out at my parents home till 4:00. Then we headed to the town square for some trick-or-treating. Several of the stores were handing out candy. The bakery ran out of candy so they started giving out little chocolate covered cakes. Yummy. That is something that I took out of Ethan's basket!! The square also had cookies to decorate, free ice cream, face painting, and hay rides. The boys had a blast.

Then we went back to my parents and hung out for a while. Headed home to get ready for Halloween.

Sunday started off by me waking up to Preston stealing the keys out of my purse and running into the bathroom. In my daze I thought it was Monday, so I jumped out of bed after I looked at the clock. Then I realized that it was Sunday. That is okay. we got a lot of errands done that we didn't take care of yesterday.  This the first Halloween that we actually carved a pumpkin. So it was very entertaining because neither one of us had actually done it before. It was also the first time for me to roast pumpkin seeds. I think everything turned out okay. At 5:00 my parents came over. I finally got to use the steamer that I got at the State Fair. Yes the one that my dad ran ahead to get and started having chest pains that his misunderstood the day before his heart attack. I have to say that it did an amazing job on the floors. I don't know what the previous owners were using to clean the hardwoods but it left a build up and anything that I used just would streak them. The steamer is the first time that I've cleaned my floors and they looked great. I am loving the steamer.
Anyways we started to get the boys ready to go trick-or-treating, Ethan started saying he was hungry. So I didn't have anything that would have prepared enough for everyone. So I sent Josh out of pizza and cooked fish for my dad. My dad had a new dish that he loved and my mom can easily cook for him.

Our first carved pumpkin.
Ethan and Preston really got into trick-or-treating. They started off by going to just a couple of houses then they turned around and came home because they didn't want to do all of the walking. So we loaded them up in the strollers and headed out. My dad stayed behind and handed out candy for us. The first couple of houses the boys weren't really sure about what was going on. Then they would jump out of the strollers and run to the doors. Towards the end Ethan was done saying trick-or-treat but would instead say boo trying to scare the person giving the candy.

We go home and Ethan sat down and was sorting out his candy.

We had a successful trip to the Dallas Arboretum. Finally the boys got to do something Halloween related. However I failed and forgot my camera.

Korri came over and he headed out. Ethan and Preston loved seeing all of the pumpkins. Actually the boys  tried to take several of the pumpkins home. It was great getting out and doing something fun with the boys. It was a day that I really needed. I had never been to the Arboretum words can not describe how beautiful and peaceful it is. Ethan and Preston loved the pumpkin patch and the hay maze. I did discover that Ethan has hay allergies. He was having so much fun but his skin turned beet red and his little noise started running. The boys also loved the Texas Pioneer Adventure and the Texas Town.

We got home and the boys were pretty tired when we got home.

Back to "normal"

Okay I really don't know what normal is but I guess we are back to the closest thing that my family knows is normal.

This morning I kept the boys busy with story time, an art project, and outside time. Ethan is so funny because he doesn't like his hands to be icky. So instead of putting his fingers in the finger paint and painting he put the paper in the paint. I guess that is one way to do it. This month's theme is bugs and crawly things. So when we were out side I pointed out the HUGE ant hill that has popped up in the last few weeks. Then I realized this is the first time in three weeks that I've taken the boys in the back yard. Granted the various babysitters we have had took the boys out but I haven't.

In case I haven't mentioned it before, Josh and I have used the TV as a reward or punishment for Ethan using the toilet. There have been times I've tried to keep the TV off and Ethan will have and accident so that then a few minutes later he can use the toilet and get the TV back. So I have been bad and have the TV on whenever he hasn't have accidents. This morning Ethan had an accident so he couldn't watch it while we had breakfast or started the lessons. When we were doing the art project he did successfully use the toilet but he was having such a great time that he didn't care the TV was off. I was able to keep him busy till 11:00 till he started saying he was tired so he then asked for the TV. I was okay with at this point because it allowed me to get lunch ready.

Preston ate then was putting head on the table. So I took him up to bed and he went right out. Ethan finished and I let him lay on the couch and finish the current show that is on. Then we headed up stairs for Ethan's nap. He was over tired and was fighting going to sleep. Once I thought he was a sleep I jumped in the shower. Then I start hearing a beeping sound. I jumped out of the shower to find Ethan playing with my alarm clock and for him to inform me that he wet the bed because he was to upset and didn't want to go to sleep. So I rushed him into the restroom. Then went to get him new underwear and shorts. Then I heard the door shut. So I rushed back to discover Ethan locked the door. I should take a moment to mention the lock is behind the door nob. So he didn't just accidentally lock himself in the bathroom. So I grabbed the screw driver that we have on top of the door frame and tried to open the door. *FAIL*  I called Josh to see what I was doing wrong. I followed his directions and it still wouldn't open. Finally Josh came home and was able to open the door.  I was completely freaked out by the whole thing.

Preston woke up during this whole thing. Once again I didn't get to do the heavy cleaning that I had planned during nap time.

I woke Ethan up after he had been asleep for a little over an hour. He was a serious crappy butt. He finally calmed down and I was able to finish the day's lessons. I had the boys fed before Josh got home. So we gave them the baths and got them ready for bed. However we didn't put the boys to bed we loaded them up in their pjs and went to the library for story time. Yes I know this isn't our normal time or day for story time but I'm hoping to have a different adventure with Korri and the boys tomorrow. It is Halloween related so I'm nervous that this isn't going to work out too.

Swimming Day!!

Words can't explain how nice it was to wake up in my own bed. Then reality hit and I noticed how backed up all of the house work was. So I spend the day trying to get caught up on laundry and dishes. The boys went another day without their lessons. Preston slept till 8:00 so he wasn't interested in his 10:00 nap. So I put him down at noon. Then I put Ethan down at 12:30 but he didn't go to sleep till about one. Preston woke up at 1:00 and wasn't interested in sleeping any longer. *sigh* my plan about getting super cleaning done while the boys were down.

We took them to them to swimming. The school announced that they have the spring classes lined up and what classes the boys are going to be in for the next class. Ethan is being moved up to Extreme aquatots. Preston is going to stay in Waterbabies for another session.

It looks like I'm going to be staying home for awhile. Well I'm already starting to put together a crazy schedule for the boys this week. I haven't given up trying to do some Halloween fun for the boys yet.

Another Monday.

Over the weekend my parents asked me to stick around. So Ethan was off to preschool again. Patti brought lunch over for us. It was super yummy soup. Then before I knew it was time to pick Ethan up.

Josh came over after work to try to go back to the pumpkin patch again. Instead a former worker came over and brought my dad dinner. We ended up not finishing dinner before the pumpkin patch closed. The evening wasn't a complete loss. Josh was able to get a battery for my car. At one point my mom came out of her bathroom and asked if Ethan had used it because there was a puddle on the floor. It turns out that the toilet was backing up. A little later Ethan was playing and started to have an accident so Josh rushed him to the nearest bathroom which was the toilet that was backing up. Ethan decided to flush it twice so there was a lovely mess to clean up.

Later in the evening my mom was running the dish washer and the wash machine. Then my mom went to use the restroom and found out that all of the drains were backing up. Which led to a huge mess to clean up. My dad then told me that since they didn't have any working restrooms that Josh and I should take the boys home. He said the former employee was coming back to work for my parents. So they were going to have an extra pair of hands around. Not to mention that my dad has a doctor appointment that my mom was going to take him to so that I could take the boys to swimming.

Weekend recap

Saturday morning we ran errands. Then the boys and I headed over to my parents house. Josh went to a Stars game. The evening was very quite.

On Sunday, we attended church with my parents. Everyone was so excited to see my dad. It was the first time that my dad has been out of the house since his heart attack.

Then later in the day we tried to go to a pumpkin patch near my parents home. We were able to snap two pictures and the people working the patch came over and informed everyone that there was a tornado warning and to seek cover. So we went home. *sigh* I'm starting to think the kids aren't going to get to do anything fun for Halloween.

So today was the last day for Ethan at his temporary preschool. Today they went to a pumpkin patch. According Ethan he found the "perfect pumpkin" because it is small like him.

We headed home to attend Frisco's Trick-or-Treat event at the Fire Safety Town. On the way their Ethan started saying that he needed to go potty. So we pulled over but it was fast enough. The traffic was really heavy and it wasn't looking like there was any parking. So we decided to go to the shuttle parking. We finally arrived at the Safety Town at 8:00 and realized the line to get in was about an hour and the event ended at 9:00. I guess I should also mention the pouring rain and that it was partially an outside event. So we decided we will try again next year.

The good news is that Preston loves wearing his costume. He cried when we took it off him so that we could put him in the car seat.

On the road to "normal"?

Being only a few minutes away from the preschool I still managed to drop Ethan off 15 minutes late. Then again I stayed up with my dad last night so I didn't get a whole lot of sleep. Ethan's teacher was sick again today. *sigh* I really hope it wasn't anything serious. Was able to help get my parents house put back to a somewhat normal state. Finally got completely unpacked from the hospital. I don't know where the day has been going because I blinked and it was time to pick Ethan up. He really is enjoying the preschool maybe it will be worth looking into a mothers day out program or a twice a week preschool for him once things settle down.

Today was the last day of his ice skating lessons. He hasn't seemed to be enjoying them since he is no longer the only kid so we have decided, before all of the craziness with my dad, that the next eight weeks are going to be crazy with the holidays coming up. We will decide in January if he is going to take more lessons. He really wanted Nana to come and watch him but she didn't want to leave my dad by himself for that long. Ethan's lessons was the best one he has ever had. Normally you get him to really try and pay attention for about 15 minutes of the class, however this time he was doing his best the entire time. I felt sad for one of the older kids in the class (I think he was at least 6 if not older) he had a potty accident and his parents were no where around.

It was nice to be home for a brief moment then we headed back to my parent's house.

What am I doing?

So this morning started at 5:30am. I had to get myself ready to possibly go to one of my parent’s customer sites. Then I had to get Ethan ready to start a preschool that is associated with my parent’s church. School starts promptly at 8:00am and is about an hour away. Traffic was heavier then what I was expecting. Ethan was about 15 minutes late and the teacher had already started the morning lessons. So I didn’t really have a chance to speak with her about Ethan’s little quirks. For example, after he uses the restroom he doesn’t want to dress himself. He will tell you that he doesn’t know how. All you have to say back is I don’t remember either can you show me how you get dressed. That he needs to be reminded to use the toilet every hour and 15 minutes. Why? I don’t know. If you try to get him to go on the hour nothing will happen, but fifteen minutes later he will open the flood gates. Then again when Ethan is in public it is like he is a different child. So I was hoping that he wouldn’t have any accidents but I took extra clothing just in case.

Preston and I headed on to my parent’s home. They apparently had a rough night so they were moving slowly this morning. That is okay I hadn’t had any caffeine yet so I wasn’t moving very fast. Eventually everyone got showered and dressed and the day took off. I got to work helping my parents out just around the house and not so much with their business today. At lunch, I got my dad’s food ready, then Preston’s, and them my mom and I were going to have the same thing so I prepared our food as well. Made sure all the drinks were filled. I just reminded of when I waited tables and I was exhausted after lunch. How did I do double shift all weekend when I was in school and in heels? Then again it was just serving the food and not preparing and serving. That does make a huge difference.
Then it was running errands with my mom. We went grocery shopping for my dad, introduced my mom to several things that she had never seen before. Like the salad spritzers. I was shocked that there is a whole lot less sodium in regular mayo compared to the light. Then again since they are removing the fat they add extra salt for flavor.

We finished up a couple minutes before 3:00 which was a bad thing because my mom had a hair appointment at 2:45 and I was supposed to be across town picking up Ethan at 3:00. So I dropped my mom off and was heading to the preschool. I was stuck at the light when I heard a knocking on the window, I felt like I jumped out of my skin. It turns out that my mom’s hair appointment is actually tomorrow so she chased me down. We got to the preschool just as they were heading over to the after school program that would have been an extra 15 dollars. Turns out that Ethan’s teacher went home sick so I still didn’t have a chance to talk to her about Ethan. Now I’m concerned about what germs he was exposed to because my dad doesn’t need to get any little kids bugs on top of everything else.

Patti and Sam stopped by and Ethan was throwing balls. Patti and Ethan were playing then next thing I know I just happened to walk in the room as Ethan throws a ball to Patti she reaches over to get it and then Ethan throws another ball and hits her right in the eye.

I hadn’t planned on spending the night but my mom was really nervous about the medicine and needed sleep. Josh was kind enough to bring us a bag of essentials so that the boys and I could stay the night. My mom finally got a good night rest!

Another day!

I'm so tried of the roller coaster of my dad's recovery. Last night was another bad night. He didn't sleep and his blood pressure dropped into the 50's. So the doctors are still trying to figure out the correct dosage he needs.

Preston is cutting a molar so we have been having teething fun. So today the diarrhea that is caused from the teething was in full glory. This morning I was keeping up with the diapers so his bum didn't get diaper rash. Poor Preston had the runs during his nap time and so now his bum looks like a baboons. Not to mention that we ran out of Tylenol. Then Ethan was getting jealous of the attention that Preston was getting. So he started crying and would physically get between Preston and myself. My nerves were shot by the time Josh got home. Thank goodness he is a saint and took the boys so that I could leave to pick my mom up and take her back to the hospital.

After all of the drama of last night, the doctors decided not to give my dad any blood pressure medications tonight. My dad was drifting in and out, so I was about to head out when the nurse came in and informed us that my dad was going down for a chest x-ray. So I stuck around to make sure there wasn't anything serious in the x-ray. My dad was sleeping great when I left for the night so hopefully my mom can finally get some sleep because she has been running on empty for a few days now.

I finally got my hands on a computer!!

Wow so much has happened since my last post.

We went did a road trip to Las Vegas. We left after Ethan's ice skating lesson. Josh and I took turns driving all night and into the next day. Ethan only had a couple of potty accidents along the way. It was the first time that I've ever seen Albuquerque, NM and I think I'm in love. I had never had a desire to go there but it is beautiful and I want to go back and spend some time there. It was also the first time for me to see parts of the Grand Canyon. It was also the first time for me to see Hover Dam. It was great to spend time with Josh's mom and Grandfather. We didn't really do a lot of tourist stuff while we were in Vegas.

We came home on Monday evening. Tuesday was swimming and trying to do laundry. Wednesday, my parents and the boys and I went to the State Fair. Poor Ethan was still tried from the world wind trip that we had just taken so he didn't want to get in the car to go anywhere. We were able to get him in the van and arrived at the fair around noon. We had great healthy fair food like cotton candy, nachos, funnel cakes, and fried cheese. We saw some of the shows and did some shopping. Then we got to the kid rides. Last year we took Ethan to an amusement park and he loved all of the kid rides so I wasn't concerned about him going on things. So he saw some race cars and that was what he wanted to go on. I figured okay they just go in a circle no big deal. *sigh* The cars were connected at the front of the car, when they made the turn it flung Ethan around the corner. Ethan was so upset after the ride that he wouldn't even look at the other kid rides. My dad finally took him to the merry-go-round and they sat on a bench but Ethan still wasn't a happy camper. At this point it was almost 8:00. I had purchased a floor steamer earlier in the day and they would hold it till 8:30. So my dad ran ahead of us to make sure that it was picked up before they left. Once we arrived at the booth my dad was nowhere to be found. Eventually he came back and had gotten a soda. We piddled around for a little longer then headed home.

Josh and I are still in one vehicle because we haven't been home long enough to go to an auto parts store to order a new  battery for my car. So the kids and I took Josh to work and on the way home had a flat tire a couple of blocks away from our house. I called my dad to find out where the jack had to be lined up because I just wasn't seeing where to put it. He wanted to come out and help but it isn't like I haven't had to change a tire or two before. I did struggle with the lung nuts but there was a kind person who stopped and helped me get them off. Then I called my parents back to figure out how to drop the spare tire because I wasn't seeing the release. That is when I found out that my dad was having a heart attack and was being transported to the hospital. Needless to say I wasn't able to finish changing the tire. Josh had to get a ride from a coworker and finish the job. This was on Thursday so Korri was at the house when we finally got there. She was a life saver and watched the kids so that I could go to the hospital. That was on October 7th and the next week was just a blur of running up to the hospital and doctors. My Aunts and my sister all came to town. My dad was finally moved out of Critical Care Unit to a normal hospital room on 13. We still don't know when he is going to be released from the hospital hopefully in the next couple of days.

The boys have been troopers through all of this. The first couple of days Ethan stopped using the restroom and Preston would just cling to me when he would see me. One of my Aunts is a teacher and she gave me a ton of resources for Gifted and Talented kids. She has no doubt that the boys will be in gifted programs when they start school. That was nice to hear. I know everyone thinks that their child is so intelligent but to have some one who works with kids tell you is just some nice reassurance.

Needless to say the boys haven't been having their daily lessons. So this week I'm going to be trying to get caught back up with the curriculum and get their routine back to as normal as possible. I have found a place that will watch Ethan during the day so that I can help my mom once my dad returns home. There are a lot of things on the boy's schedule but I don't know how much of it we will actually get to do.

Please keep my dad in your prayers. It looks like he is going to have a long recovery.
