The begining of our crazy week!

This morning it was rushing around. To get Josh off to work then get then to get the kids ready for soccer.

Preston's class was huge today. I think there was ten kids in the class. Preston did well at the beginning of the class but about half way he was over soccer. He just wanted to sit in the stroller and have a snack. Ethan was being silly most of the class and wasn't listening very well. At one point he just down and told the teacher that he just wanted to watch. I told him that if he didn't want to participate then we could leave. A little later he stopped listening so I told him that if he didn't listen then once again we would leave. He behaved the rest of the class.

Celebrating my Dad's Birthday

Today we headed over to my parent's home to have my dad's birthday celebration.  We got there early in case my mom need help getting the meal together. The boys played on the patio while we were waiting for everyone to arrive.

The boys don't nap very well at my parents home. We left late so the boys were up late. Preston and Josh fell asleep on the way home but Ethan stayed up the entire time. Once we got home Ethan was awake for another hour.

My boys hate sleeping!

Last night Ethan woke Josh and me up at 3:00 in the morning. I didn't get back to sleep till about 6:00. Preston woke up at 6:30. I have the best husband in the world and he got up with Preston and he actually let me sleep in till 10:00. Preston went down for his nap without a problem. Ethan never did fall asleep and his messing around woke Preston up. So they were pretty cranky this afternoon. We still had errands to run. Then back to home for dinner. Once again Preston went to bed fairly easy. Ethan didn't fall asleep till about 10:00 pm. Then he started having a coughing fit that woke him up. Josh stayed with him so that I could go to Walgreens. It turns out that I wasn't the only grocery game person at Walgreens just before the end of the sale. I do have to say that I did really great. I spent $49.00 but I got $9.00 for my next visit, and I saved $75.33. When I got home the boys were both asleep but Preston woke up just minutes after I got in the door. He finally got back to sleep.

Surgery Day!

Korri came over and watched the boys while I went to the hospital to be with my parents. My dad had a defibrillator implanted. The surgery went well. The doctor would have released my dad today but my parents didn't feel comfortable leaving the hospital yet. My dad will go home tomorrow. About 6:00 he did start making my mom and me nervous because he was complaining about a pain. Turns out it was just a dull pain that was just because the pain medication was wearing off.

My dad's room over looked the ER entrance. My mom and I entertained ourselves by watching the ambulances come and go.

The Calm before the Storm

Today is the last day of just calm that we are going to have for awhile. Tomorrow is my dad's surgery then next, week Ethan starts preschool.

After dinner, we did a couple of errands that we have been putting off.  First we stopped at Color Me Mine to pick up our ornaments and to recreate the one that got broken. I couldn't believe how busy the place was. Every table was being used. We lucked out that one of the parties ended up not having as many people as they thought they were going to have so they were able to condense down and let us have a table. It was also good that we put Preston in a high chair because otherwise we would have been a chair short.

Then it was off to Target. They have pillows on sale for $2.00 and $8.00 feather pillows. Last night we had a pillow incident after Ethan feel asleep and before we went to bed; Ethan jacked Josh's pillow. Not to mention that we are going to be setting up our guest room so we were in the need of more pillows and they were such a great price. The boys were funny. Preston put in of the pillows in the basket with him and started to pretend snore. Ethan put the pillows behind him and propped his legs up and put his arms behind his head.

Happy Birthday Dad!

Today is my Dad's birthday. So the day was spent getting the house ready for my parents to come over. I found a guilt less German Chocolate Cake. My dad as long as I remember would get a German Chocolate Cake for his birthday. I was super excited to find one that he could eat.

So I am finally feeling comfortable enough that I don't need a structured curriculum anymore. To me the kids get more out of teachable moments then anything else right now. This morning we made frozen icicle sticks. Then we played candy land. Plus there was Play-Doh, coloring, and reading.

My mom and grandmother came over after another doctor's appointment. It looks like her surgery is going to be in three weeks to remove the cancer by her eye.

Ethan and Preston were still groggy after their naps. Tonight Preston went to sleep a few minutes early.

Tonight was grocery night. I tried a different store tonight, it was nice that they didn't turn off half the lights while I was shopping. I saved 51% but once again I was disappointed in how much I actually spent. I'm still working on building on my stock pile.

Welcome to the Varner's Taxi service!

Today was all about getting people from point A to point B. First it was getting Josh to work. Then back home to get everything ready for soccer. The original place that I signed up for didn't have enough kids to make a class. There was another location in Frisco that if we went there the classes would make. The other classes were in a part of Frisco that I just have not wandered into yet. Turns out it wasn't actually in Frisco. *sigh* I was looking for a place named Frisco Indoor Sports. Silly me thinking that it was actually in Frisco. Anyways with a little help from Josh I finally found the place.I should take a moment because there has been a little confusion the boys are in a class and not on a team. The soccer class just teaches them the basic of soccer.  Then I had to take the stroller, diaper bag, an activity/ snack bag, and my purse not to mention all of our coats, I felt like we were moving in. Of course I was the last one to show up and everyone was waiting for me to get Ethan settled because Preston is in a Mommy and me class. Needless to say, I don't have any pictures or video of Preston's class because trying to keep an eye on Ethan and do the class with Preston was pretty challenging for me. Ethan was a lot better then I thought he was going to be while Preston's class was going on. He sat and  colored for a little while then he would just sit and watch. A couple of times he would try to come on the field because he wanted to be in the class, I told him that he would get a turn after Preston's class was over and Preston would have to sit and watch him. Ethan grumbled a little but did sit back down and waited for his turn. Preston was so tired after his class he just sat in the stroller ate his snack and just sat there and would make faces to keep himself awake.

That is Ethan going down the field with a ball.

I'm not sleepy!!

Standing up the cones without their hands.

Peek-a-boo. I'm still awake!

Showing off his dance moves to stay awake!
The boys loved their soccer classes. After class, I picked up Josh and Mark and took them to get food. Then it was off to meet my mom at the car dealership because her car is leaking oil and it is under warranty. Took my mom to my grandmother's doctor appointment. Waited in the parking lot till the appointment was over. I drove my grandmother and mom over to where my grandmother is having a doctors appointment tomorrow. Then back to the dealership where my mom picked up a rental car. Finally the boys and I were able to get home after 3:00. When it was time to leave to pick up Josh the boys didn't want to leave again.

Feeling better

I'm starting to feel better. I still stayed in bed for most of the morning. In the afternoon all of us worked together to get the toys picked up and put away.

Josh's dad and Bobby meet us for dinner and my new favorite restaurant Casa Ritas. Dinner was even better then the last time I ate there.

I signed the boys up for soccer, but I got an email asking to change when the boys are going to have their class. So it looks like the boys are starting soccer tomorrow morning. I'm expecting a total meltdown from Preston. I think Ethan is going to get bored while Preston is in class. I guess I'm expecting tomorrow to be a complete disaster.

Running Fever!

All week I've been trying not to get sick. Well this morning I woke up with fever. *sigh* So Josh has been amazing and watching the boys so that I can get some rest and hopefully get over whatever I have.

I think Ethan is about to have a growth spurt because all he wanted to do was eat this morning. Normally getting Ethan to eat is pretty challenging. Preston was pretty quite just played and watched TV. He was just acting really sleepy this morning.

Josh made me lay down while the boys were taking their nap. While I was forced to lay down I took the laptop with me and I planned my afternoon shopping trip. I also found out that some of Josh's friends were planning on going to see Tron in 3D, I told them that Josh would be there. Then I let Josh know that he was going out with his friends tonight. He wasn't to happy that I was forcing him to go out tonight because I'm not feeling well but I can handle the kids even with a fever. Then he made me return to bed.

I did take a little nap because the next thing I knew the boys were awake. I made my trip to Walgreens. I am pretty impressed with myself. I spent 54.80 and saved 54.19 and got 18 in register rewards to be used next time I go.

Josh was going to the restroom and Ethan was in there driving him nuts. I thought it was funny because that is what I have to deal with all the time.

Josh headed out to have dinner with his friends. The boys and I just had a quite evening.

More Training Blues!

So last night about midnight, I heard Ethan scampering around. When I went to investigate I heard him on the toilet doing his thing. I paused so he wouldn't see me. He got off the toilet, wiped, pulled up his underwear and pants, flushed, washed and dried his hands, then returned to bed. At first a wave of joy came over me, then frustration. If he had known that I was their it would have been a completely different.

This morning, my frustration continued because he pooped in his pants. Ugh. I don't know why but when Josh is around Ethan is even worst about using the toilet by himself. Ethan will declare that he needs to use the toilet. He will run around the room a couple of time to find two or three toys to take with him to the restroom. Once he finally gets to the toilet, Ethan will say he needs help. If I go in their I will hold the toys so that he can remove his pants and underwear. Then he will whine that he needs his toys back once he is actually sitting. Yes Ethan prefers to potty sitting down (Did I mention he is lazy?) At this point if he didn't get his pants and underwear off in time. Then I'm locating clean underwear and pants for him. Once Ethan is done, he will come running out of the restroom holding his underwear in one hand and his pants in the other. I will tell him to put his underwear on. Ethan will declare that he doesn't know how to do it. *sigh* I take him back to the bathroom and make sure he wiped. Have him sit on the stool and eventually he will put on his underwear and pants. Then I will make him wash and dry his hands. Once again he will declare that he doesn't know how to do it and that the soap dispenser is empty. Finally he will wash and dry his hands.

Just for most parents night time potty training is the hard part. I just don't know what we are doing wrong. He knows what to do and how to do it, just he want us to do it for him. I'm hopeful that with Ethan going to preschool and seeing the other boys do everything by themselves that he will start being more independent.

Fridgit Friday

This morning we were below freezing in North Texas. I decided that we were going to spend the day indoors.

The morning was spent running around and playing with Play-Doh. Then lunch time came. I decided that we would try chicken taquitos.  Preston just started eating them up right away. Ethan started throwing a fit. *sigh* I really wish he would move past this picky eater faze. I was finally able to get him to try it but still it was like trying to pull teeth to get him to eat.

Nap time was a joke again today. Just when Ethan fell asleep, Preston woke up. It was back and forth the entire nap time.

The afternoon was more Play-Doh for Ethan. Preston was all about the manga doodle.

The phone drama is over! Josh was able to upgrade his phone so I got his old phone. I have a phone again!

A new school?

This morning Ethan did a trial day at the preschool that we are considering. Ethan went into his class and started playing with the other kids. Preston was the one that had an issue with Ethan being left.

Korri stopped by after I got back from the preschool. We just hung out and talked. It was really great getting to spend some time with her today.

Then it was back to the preschool so that Josh and I could do a tour. We were really impressed with the program. We didn't sign Ethan up because we wanted to find out what Ethan thought. There was still an hour before it was time to pick Ethan up. So I returned Josh to work and came back. While I was waiting for Ethan's class to finish another family was there waiting to pick up their son. They love the school and have been going there since August. Ethan was going ninety to nothing about his morning. Tomorrow I'm going to get Ethan signed up but we won't have him start till February.

The afternoon the boys just wanted to paint and color. After we picked Josh up from work it was off to get my phone fixed. *sigh* turns out that it is dead. Who knew that letting Preston us it as a chew toy was a bad idea. What it was more that Preston pulled it out of my purse and I didn't know he had it.

Just chilling

Potty training blues!

Today we had a major set back with Ethan and potty training. He had several accidents today. The first one was he was messing around on the way to the toilet and just didn't get his underwear off in time. The second one was at nap time. Josh stepped out of the room for a second and then Ethan peed on the side of his bed. The third accident he was kind of doing a potty dance around the room and I told him to get on the toilet. He got to the toilet but wasn't able to get his clothes off in time. We tried to explain to him that tomorrow he is going to a big boy class and that if he has an accident while he is at music school he won't be able to go back. So my fingers are crossed that whatever caused him to have accidents today has passed and that tomorrow he will be on track again.

New Swimming Class

This morning the boys woke up early but we were able to get them to fall back asleep so that we were able to get another hour of sleep. I'm still really tired because I only got four hours of sleep last night. *sigh* oh well. At least Josh finally decided to see a doctor to figure out if he is going to survive. It turns out that he will live another day. He doesn't have the plague after all, just viral bronchitis. So he stayed home again today.

This morning the boys spent most the time coloring and painting. Which was good because I just didn't have it in me to chase them around. I was able to get the last two boxes of Christmas presents put away.

Ethan didn't want to take his nap today so by the time he fell asleep there was only about 30 minutes before Preston woke up. Of course Preston woke up early. So I didn't get a lot done around the house again today.

This afternoon was all about running around. It is nice that our new swimming class is later so we were able to have dinner before swimming.

Since Josh is sick, I got in the water with Preston. I really like Preston's new teacher. Since it was the first class and there were a lot of new babies in the class the teacher took her time to explain the different stations and what to expect from their babies during the session. Preston got bored so he would just float on his back or climb out of the pool and jump in, I'm sure the other parents thought that Preston and the teacher planned it because he was doing everything just as she went to explain that activity.

Ethan's new class was a little different he didn't want to go to the new teacher. Then he decided that he needed to use the restroom but once he came back he was okay with the new teacher. I guess he saw how much fun the other child was have and he wanted to join in.

It was a day!

This morning started off with me being off. It was just one of those mornings that I just couldn't get my act together. Then once I felt like I was getting everything together I got hit with a bunch of bad news. My dad's heart is only functioning at 30%. My dad is going to have to have surgery soon. The spot on my grandmother's face is cancer. That spot is going to have to be removed. *sigh* Josh is still sick. He went back and forth about going into work today. I told him that sometimes getting up and going helps you get over the crud but if he starts feeling worst that he needs to come home.

This afternoon, I had just gotten the boys to sleep. Was getting ready to take my shower when I heard someone walking around. Assuming it was Ethan playing around I came out of the bedroom. Instead of seeing a three year old playing, there was a man with his back to me. I screamed and jumped back. The shadowy figured also jump and swung around. I let out a little sigh, realizing that it was Josh standing there. He was startled because he was expecting me to be in the boys room. Turns out that one of Josh's coworkers that has all the same symptoms was just diagnosed with the flu.

Preston started getting really cranky this evening. We took his temperature and it was 99.5. It looks like he is getting sick too.

Josh and I were talking and it seemed like there were a couple of presents from Christmas that we didn't see anywhere. We did some digging in the garage and found TWO more boxes full of presents. Thank goodness one box was small and the other had mostly board games and books.
In other news, it looks like we are going to enroll Ethan into a preschool. We are going to tour the school on Thursday just to make sure. This isn't a normal preschool it specializes performing arts everyday they have music, art, dance, and theater. It is a half day program  that we are probably going to do three days a week. I'll keep you posted to see what happens.

Grocery savings: So I'm actually a little bummed about how much I spent today. Not that it was a terrible amount or that my over all savings weren't great (45% of my total bill). Just if I would actually go shopping every week I know that my bill would have been about $15 this week, instead I ended up spending 37.54 (for those who are bad at math I saved $31.04). Just because I needed to stock up on things because my cupboards was bare. Then again $37.54 really is pretty impressive to feed a family of four on. I was just so motivated by that extreme couponing show that I saw. I do need to just start going every week. With the boys swimming class on Wednesdays now hopefully Tuesdays will be my shopping night.

It's a Monday!

Today we are just doing our lessons and playing.

Josh came home sicker then when he went to work.

Sunday a boring day

Josh still wasn't feeling well but he did let me sleep in this morning. Preston started running a fever, however a little Tylenol and it went away and he acted fine the rest of the day.

Overall the boys played and took great naps. So while they were napping Josh and I got more house work done.

Sunday, January 16, 2011

This morning started off early! 5:30 to be exact. Even with Josh being sick he got up with the kids but by 7:00 he was done and I got up so he could lay back down. Josh came back down a little later for some breakfast then returned to the bedroom.

It looks like the boys and I are on our own today. The boys are starting to get cranky because of how tired they are but I'm trying to get them to go down for their naps at their normal time. Thank goodness for Cailou because he calmed the boys down so that I could make something for lunch.

My parents came over while the boys and I were playing outside. Poor Preston woke up from his nap early and started getting cranky. I put on his favorite movie so he and Papa sat down to watch it. Ethan heard it and came in to watch it too. Half way threw the movie Josh came down from his nap and found all of us asleep on the couch. Once the movie ended we decided it was time for dinner. I suggested my new favorite restaurant Casa Rita. It is the place that I went with Jen during girls night. The wait was about an hour so we decided to move on. I was completely bummed.

It's Friday!

I ended up staying up way to late. So this morning I'm dragging a little bit. I've noticed that since I've been doing the baby steps that I seem to have more time even if I'm moving a little slowly.

Josh came home a little early from work today not feeling well. He was running a slight fever and was achy. *sigh* So this weekend should be interesting.

More cleaning. I've got video!

I don't know what happened but I wasn't able make calls with my phone this morning. Then the main button that is used to navigate my phone stopped working. So I'm unable to take pictures today. Which is very disappointing because I was going to take pictures of the clean floor in my room and of the reorganized play room. The boys have been so adorable today also. We were all playing kicky-kick ball then Ethan's running game. Not to mention the cuteness of music time and their general playing. My phone still isn't working It looks like Preston was chewing on it. I remembered that Josh got a Flip for his birthday so I have video!

Here is some footage of the reorgainzed playroom

I know that normally today is our outing day but I didn't find anything for us to do today. The library's story time doesn't start back till next week. There is a story time at the mall but the kids don't seem to enjoy it as much.Plus, Korri wasn't able to join us so we just stayed home.

Naps when really well. So Mt. Saint Clothes is down to one laundry basket!!!! I can't believe it. If you watch the video please keep in mind that I haven't had a chance to clean everything up yet.

Today is the day that my dad is doing his stress find out what the next step for him is going to be. We will find out the results sometime next week.

It's Hump Day!

I can't believe we have another day at home! This morning we still have snow on the ground.

Ethan woke up wanting to paint. Then I realized the smocks are in the diaper bag that is in the van that Josh took to work today. I tried to get away with coloring but Ethan wasn't having it. He wanted art class. So I gave him a little bit of paint. I'm so happy that Preston was happy with the crayons because there isn't anyway that I was going to let him paint without a smock.

The rest of the day we spent playing. Nap time went really smooth. Preston did wake up for a little bit but quickly fell back to sleep. So I was able to work on Mt. Saint Clothes! Josh was shocked when he got home and was able to walk around the bedroom without stepping on or over anything.

Happy 1-1-11

I've heard of fly lady before and I've started to go through the sets before but this morning I actually joined. So I will let you guys know if I ever achieve a spotless home and maintain it.  I do have to say the number of emails they send you can be overwhelming. The website when you sign up warns you about the number of emails. I do like that one of them is a daily challenge for kids. They do give you a ton of information and check list but as long as I take it a little at a time because everything can't be done at once. Today is going to bed with a clean sink, that I know I can manage.

I can't believe there is still snow on the ground here. I'm hoping that it will melt away today but I guess we will see. My sister informed me that I have more snow in my yard then she does in Chicago. Thanks I really needed to know that. :-) At least the road are dry so it is easy to get around.

This morning we worked on picking up all of the boys toys that are in the playroom and living room. Okay what really happened was I would put something away and they would be right behind me to take it out again. *sigh* but I did make some progress while the boys put on a concert for me.

Today was the last day of this session of swimming, after today we are going to be moving to another night and time. Overall the boys did well. Ethan is ready to move up to the next class and we were asked  to bring Preston in on Saturday to be a guinea pig for a training class.

My sink is cleaned. and I was able to do all of the mini challenges from flylady. It looks like I might be on track to have a home cleaner than my parent's home. Okay I can dream right?

Snow day, again

Another day at home. It is crazy, I can't remember the last time that the boys and I were home three days in a row!!
We started the morning doing our lessons. Then played with play-doh.

After naps we went and played in the snow again today. According to family, Facebook, and the news most of Dallas and Fort Worth snow is completely melted. I don't know how we still have snow on the ground.

Warming up with some hot chocolate.

Chilling after dinner

Ethan showing Josh the play-doh factory

Preston had to join the fun, too.

Snow Day!

The morning started off with continuing to get caught up with the house work that slide over the past month. Laundry is done, dishes are done as well. Still working on Mount St. Clothes and rearranging the play area for all the new toys from Christmas.

It is very odd for snow to accumulate in Texas. Yesterday the weather was quite lovely and we were running around without jackets. I didn't think when the snow started falling that it would affect our plans for the day. Just after I noticed that it was sticking to our patio.

Just before 3:00pm
After the boys woke up from their naps, it was time to play in the snow.

The plans that got changed today was my parents had talked about coming over and helping us set up the play room and take care of some other things around the house. Do to the weather we all decided it would be best for them to stay home. It was nice to have a full weekend at home.
